We also service many of the local trainers and pre-trainers in the area and consider ourselves very fortunate to have such friendly and successful clients.
Applicants should be enthusiastic, ambitious and motivated to join and contribute to our friendly, experienced and progressive team, dedicated to providing an excellent service with a strong continuing education, and fun-loving, culture. Hunter Equine Centre is seeking two Intern Veterinarians to join our team; one in January and one in July 2024. We are a progressive team, providing specialist medical, surgical, intensive care, laboratory and stud services both within the hospital and on the road. The practice is an excellent, new facility at Scone racetrack with plans underway to expand the facility with a new operating room and standing surgery facility to replace the current surgery facilities and in addition to the intensive care and isolation units that are less than 3 years old.
The successful applicants will have responsibility for supervised veterinary care in the hospital during the 6-month period over the busy season (August-January), developing skills in neonatal medicine, imaging, general anaesthesia, surgery and lameness evaluation; with specialist mentorship during this time. The off-season 6-month period (January-July) would entail a mixture of broader ambulatory work, with more time spent with the ambulatory team, assisting with the yearling work and routine racetrack and stud work, under the guidance and supervision of senior ambulatory and stud veterinarians, in addition to the above medicine, surgery and intensive care unit hospital responsibilities, albeit with a reduced hospital caseload.
Opportunities to extend the internship from 12 to 18 months into a second “busy season” could be discussed and tailored to the individual. This second season at the practice would start the transition to ambulatory stud and racetrack work with mentored supervision and increased case responsibility in the hospital.
