Scottsdale Veterinary Services is seeking a new or recent graduate veterinarian to join their friendly team. Scottsdale is in the heart of north-east Tasmania, only an hour from Launceston.
You will have some big boots to fill…. Dr Maddy is moving on to her next adventure to test the skills gained over the last 4 years with us.
If you join us as a new or recent grad like Dr Maddy did, you will quickly be competent with:
- Pregnancy testing cattle both manual and ultrasound
- Equine dentistry
- Bull breeding soundness evaluations (and be accredited!)
- Most routine small animal surgery and some orthopaedic surgery e.g. TTO
- Laparoscopic LDA
- Evaluating and freezing dog semen and performing TCAI in dogs.
- Participating in trial/research work
We have a supportive team of 6 full time equivalent vets plus 3 nurses. Clinic hours are 8:30am – 5:00pm Monday to Friday.
We are a truly mixed practice with all the usual toys – in house blood machines, ultrasound, digital x-ray with the added advantage of a tipper trailer. When you are on call (only 1:6 rota), all calls are answered by our Tele-Triage team of experienced vet nurses. This means that you are not disturbed for non-urgent enquiries.
We not only have a great working environment, with a 9-day fortnight, there’s plenty of spare time to enjoy the region.
Maddy joined the local footy and netball competitions, the local Surf Lifesaving Club, competed in numerous 1/2 marathons, she has climbed all the local mountains and practices yoga on stand up paddle boards and has eaten at all the local restaurants and our two local distillery and breweries!! There’s also fishing, world class mountain bike trails & golf courses, more sporting clubs and the beautiful Bridport beaches are just a 15-minute drive away.
In Dr Maddy’s words….
“I came to Scottsdale Vets as a new grad in 2018. I have had the most support one could hope for, a great team of vets to work with and bounce ideas off and who will help you no matter what the hour is. We now have teletriage for after-hours which is amazing, you don’t have to talk to clients – definitely a game changer! I have been supported in furthering my skills in orthopedics, bull testing, equine dentistry and everything in between. We have both the perks of being part of a corporate where you have a specialist in every field only a phone call away, however are also lucky that it is still a family orientated vibe at our clinic, and work isn’t always the first priority. I could not recommend this position enough, I am heading off to get some travelling out of my system, but hope to end back here in the near future!”
As part of Apiam Animal Health – Australia’s largest rural and regional mixed and production animal veterinary group – we offer considerable opportunities for training, personal development and career progression. Opportunities to gain extra skills by spending time in other clinics within our Apiam network are encouraged, and we offer industry-leading internal training as well as genuine support for your career progression.
You will benefit from Apiam’s Graduate Development Program which recognizes that the transition to practice can be a challenging time. The program includes monthly support webinars with Make Headway, a mentor program and the “Grad Retreat” face-to-face events.
