New Horizons Clinical Placement Scholarships

I am pleased to introduce the 2023 winners of the New Horizons Clinical Placement Scholarships.

This initiative provides financial support for students to attend clinical placement in an Apiam practice.

Applications this year required a video submission addressing the key criteria:

  • What do you hope to achieve as a vet in a rural or regional clinic?
  • Why is a rural or regional lifestyle important to you?
  • What are you doing to ensure you succeed with your goals?

I received 42 applications.  The 10 winners submitted thoughtful and creative videos and will genuinely benefit from experiencing placement in our clinics.

10 winners each receive $2500 to assist with travel and accommodation expenses.

Our runners-up are applicants receive a $300 fuel voucher to assist with travel to an Apiam clinic that they had flagged on their wish-list.

Big thanks to Shauna James, Tess Salmond and John Anstee for your assistance with selection of the winners.

I am honoured to have been selected to receive the New Horizons Clinical Placement Scholarship in 2023. This scholarship will not only contribute to the cost of associated with placement but will allow me to work with like-minded veterinarians in a mixed rural practice, an industry I am very keen to be part of.

Erin Loxley, CSU

I am extremely excited to have the opportunity to travel interstate to an Apiam clinic and gain valuable insight into different production animal systems around the country.

Amelia McCrabb, CSU

“I am very grateful to Apiam for awarding me a New Horizons Clinical Placement Scholarship and for providing the ability to travel to the many clinics on offer across Australia. I’m excited to use this opportunity to get out into rural practice and meet vets from places I may not have otherwise been able to visit, in what I’m sure will be a fantastic experience to learn hands-on skills that will greatly benefit my development into the field as a new graduate! Many thanks to Apiam for their support.”

I am especially excited to attend my 5th year rotations at the Clermont Veterinary Surgery during May next year. I am incredibly grateful to have been awarded the APIAM New Horizons Clinical Placement Scholarship as it will be extremely valuable in facilitating my travel and accommodation costs next year.

I feel immensely honored and grateful to have been selected for the New Horizons Clinical Placement Scholarship and sincerely thank the selection panel for their time.

I am looking to return to Scottsdale Veterinary Services in Tasmania for calving season as I thoroughly enjoyed my time there the past winter. I had previously thought that traveling to Tasmania once more would be financially inaccessible, due to flight, vehicle hire, and accommodation costs, as well as the recent loss of employment in my family. However, I am beyond elated that with the New Horizons Clinical Placement Scholarship, I will be able to make plans to return for placement there in my final year, for a good taste of mixed practice in an absolutely beautiful state.
