About Scenic Rim Veterinary Service

Scenic Rim Veterinary Service is a progressive, purpose-built equine and mixed practice facility located on 20 acres on the outskirts of Beaudesert.

We have a fully equipped equine referral and first opinion practice, with 2 board certified surgeons and 7-8 full-time veterinarians. There are 12 support staff including qualified nurses and administration staff. We have a large thoroughbred client base, both racing and stud, along with servicing a considerable component of sport horses, quarter horses, stock horses, warmbloods and companion horses. Full surgical, ultrasound, digital radiography, video endoscopy / gastroscopy and laparoscopy are offered.

Beaudesert is in the heart of Southeast Queensland’s thoroughbred and performance horse country. Our clinic offers a rare mix of high quality reproductive service, surgery, first opinion ambulatory care, genuine teamwork, and a lifestyle that feels balanced and grounded.

About the Role:

We are offering the opportunity for an Equine Surgeon to join our team and replace one of our two full time surgeons. Applicants who have completed a residency program, applicants with specialty registration or experienced surgeons will be considered. Our current and ongoing surgeon, Dr Aswin Beck is very experienced and prepared to assist a recently trained applicant to further develop.

We average approximately 800 surgeries per annum and perform a significant degree of lameness work, performance medicine, endoscopy, radiology – including sales x-rays, artificial reproduction and stud management.

Procedures offered include:

· Orthopaedic surgery including arthroscopy, fracture repair, foal limb corrective procedures, joint injuries.

· Soft tissue surgery including colic surgery, dystocia management, reproductive surgery, airway procedures, eye grafts and wound reconstruction.

· Laparoscopic procedures such as ovariectomy, oviduct PGE

· Lameness evaluations and poor performance investigations, both first opinion and referral cases.

· Stud veterinary services – we attend some of the larger Thoroughbred farms in the area, and on farm services are backed up by our clinic surgical team.

The current surgical roster requires one week in two on call, and every Friday off. We are looking for a talented, enthusiastic, practical team player with good communication skills, and who will share our goal of providing top level veterinary care while being part of a collaborative and enjoyable workplace.
