The Opportunity

Victorian Equine Group is seeking a skilled and motivated Equine Surgeon to join our established team at Bendigo Equine Hospital. This is an outstanding opportunity for a specialist clinician to contribute to a progressive and high-performing equine practice.

About Us

Victorian Equine Group comprises Bendigo Equine Hospital and a network of satellite locations servicing key breeding and performance regions across Victoria, including Lancefield, Nagambie, and Northern Victoria.

Established in 2012, Bendigo Equine Hospital is a leading first opinion and referral facility, supported by a collaborative team of 10–13 veterinarians. Our clinicians include surgical and reproductive specialists alongside experienced ambulatory and hospital-based practitioners.

Our caseload is diverse, with approximately 60% commercial and 40% pleasure horses, providing broad and stimulating clinical exposure.

Our purpose-built facility, located opposite Bendigo Racecourse, includes a fully equipped surgical suite supporting a wide range of procedures and services:

  • Orthopaedic surgery (arthroscopy, fracture repair, joint pathology)
  • Soft tissue surgery (colic, dystocia, airway procedures, reproductive surgery, wound management)
  • Minimally invasive surgery (laparoscopy)
  • Intensive medical care, including neonatal and critical care cases
  • Lameness and poor performance investigations (first opinion and referral)
  • Stud veterinary services, supporting major Thoroughbred and Standardbred operations

About You

We are looking for a registered specialist (or equivalent experience) with the capability and ambition to play a key clinical role within the group.

You will demonstrate:

  • Advanced, well-rounded capability across equine clinical practice
  • Strong surgical expertise with a focus on lameness
  • Demonstrated leadership, mentoring, and team development experience
  • Sound clinical judgment with excellent communication skills
  • Commitment to high standards of care and continuous clinical improvement
  • Collaborative, client-focused approach to practice

Essential Requirements:

  • Veterinary degree recognised in Australia
  • Specialist registration, board eligibility, or equivalent advanced training pathway
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in equine surgery
