Not every veterinarian wants to step away from clinical work to focus on training. And not every clinic has the caseload or structure needed to properly support and develop new graduates.
This role sits in the space between full time clinical work and dedicated training.
We are creating a new Veterinary Trainer position across our Harbour City and Boyne Tannum Veterinary Clinics, designed for an experienced companion vet who wants to stay clinically active while playing a key role in developing the next generation of veterinarians.
This is a hands on training role in two busy clinics, working directly alongside new graduates and limited registration veterinarians to build their confidence, clinical ability and decision making.

Harbour City and Boyne Tannum are well established small animal clinics with strong caseloads and experienced teams. Each clinic has its own established team and workflow, but together they operate as a connected group that supports each other and shares knowledge.
We are also building a brand new purpose built clinic in Gladstone, giving you the chance to be involved in shaping how training and clinical support will look into the future.

This is a 12 month fixed term contract commencing in November or December 2026, with the opportunity to stay on longer if it is the right fit for you and the team.
The role has a balanced focus:
Approximately 50 percent clinical work
Approximately 50 percent mentoring and training
You will:
• Work across both clinic locations
• Train and support new graduates and limited registration veterinarians in day to day practice
• Focus on building practical clinical skills, not just theory
• Provide hands on guidance in consults, surgery and case management
• Be part of the weekend and on call roster alongside the wider team
This is not a classroom role. It is about teaching in the moment, within a busy clinical environment, and helping vets build confidence quickly.

This role is suited to an experienced veterinarian who enjoys developing others.
You will bring:
• Minimum 6 years clinical experience
• Confidence and competence across all areas of general practice medicine and surgery
• A strong interest in mentoring and teaching in a practical, hands on way
You are someone who:
• Enjoys helping others improve and succeed
• Communicates clearly and gives practical, constructive feedback
• Is comfortable working across different clinic environments
• Values good medicine, good teamwork and continual improvement

Salary: $130,000 to $150,000 per annum plus superannuation, dependent on experience and skillset
Generous after hours remuneration in addition
What we offer
• Share accommodation available if relocating
• A structured role that balances clinical work with dedicated mentoring time
• The opportunity to help shape a new role and approach to graduate training
• Strong support from both clinic teams and the broader Apiam network
• Access to internal training, development opportunities and mentoring pathways
• Employee Assistance Program and staff discounts across clinics and retail partners
• A varied caseload that will keep you engaged and challenged
If you are looking for a role where you can continue practising as a veterinarian while making a real impact on the development of others, this is a unique opportunity to do both.
