Leadership Role

The Victorian Equine Group operates Bendigo Equine Hospital and several satellite locations in Victoria. Our satellite locations service studs and clients in the Lancefield region, in the Nagambie region and in Victoria’s northern regions.

The Bendigo Equine Hospital was established in 2012 and is both a first opinion and referral hospital servicing clients from across Victoria. We operate with a team of 10-13 vets, depending on the season. Our team is highly skilled and features both surgical and reproductive specialists, ambulatory and hospital-based clinicians.

Our caseload is approximately 60% commercial and 40% pleasure horses.

Located opposite the Bendigo Racecourse, Bendigo Equine Hospital is a specialist surgical and medical facility featuring a fully equipped surgical suite. Procedures performed include:

  • Orthopaedic surgery including arthroscopy, fracture repair, joint injuries.
  • Soft tissue surgery including colic surgery, dystocia management, reproductive surgery, airway procedures, and wound management.
  • Laparoscopic procedures
  • Medical cases include intensive care of medical patients, orthopaedic patients and a large number of neonatal foals during the season.
  • Lameness evaluations and poor performance investigations including first opinion and referral cases.
  • Stud veterinary services – we service some of the larger Thoroughbred and Standardbred farms in Victoria. On farm services are backed up by our hospital facilities.

We are looking for an experienced registered specialist surgeon with aspirations to take on a leadership role within the group. Applicants must be omnicompetent and comfortable with all aspects of equine veterinary medicine. You should be able to deal with the daily clinical challenges that present and be familiar with the day to day running of a busy equine hospital.

Your skillset includes:

  • Omnicompetence (Applicants must be highly competent in all aspects of equine veterinary medicine)
  • Surgical expertise
  • Strong interest in lameness
  • Proven leadership and mentoring experience
  • Strong decision-making and communication skills
  • A commitment to advancing equine veterinary standards
  • A passion for client relationships and team engagement
  • Bachelor of Veterinary Science or equivalent degree which is recognised in Australia 
  • Specialist registration, board eligible or extensive experience following an alternate route of training 
  • Minimum of 5 years veterinary experience focused on equine surgery
